The Nyurba Mining and Processing Division (MPD) is one of the youngest enterprises of ALROSA. It operates at the Nakyn ore field. In particular, it develops the following deposits: Nyurbinsky and Botuobinsky open-pits, and two same-name alluvial placers. Share in ALROSA Group’s production totaled 18% in 2016.

The division employs more than 1,500 people. At the Nyurba Division, for the first time throughout history of ALROSA, the rotation work scheme has been applied with the involvement of workers living in Mirny, Nyurba, and Verkhnevilyuisk.

At the prospects of Nyurbinskaya and Botuobinskaya pipes all the works are performed by Nyurba Mining and Processing Division based on service contracts with OJSC ALROSA-Nyurba, the subsidiary company that holds the exploration and mining license.

Nyurbinsky open-pit

The open-pit was put into operation in 2001; it is characterized with high diamond content. Diamond output in 2016 – 5.001 million carats.

Botuobinsky open-pit

In 2015, Botuobinskaya pipe started ore mining; it contains many gem and near-gem quality diamonds with a high transparency and low proportion of colored stones. Diamond production at the pipe will exceed 2 million carats when it reaches its design capacity of 400 thousand tons of ore per year. Diamond output in 2016 – 684 thousand carats.

Placer deposits

The Nyurbinskoye placer deposit is localized in the immediate vicinity of the Nyurbinskaya pipe, which is a source of diamonds; the Botuobinskaya placer deposit is closely associated with the same-name kimberlite pipe.

Diamond output in 2016 – 1.108 million carats.

Ore and sands processing

Ore and sands from the Nyurba MPD are processed at the Processing Plants Nos. 15 and 16 with the design capacity of 0.5 and 1.4 million tons of ore, respectively.
