The Aikhal Mining and Processing Division (MPD), established in 1986, mines diamonds at the following deposits: Jubilee and Komsomolsky open-pits, Aikhal underground mine. Share in ALROSA Group’s production exceeded 30% in 2017.

The division employs more than 4,300 people.

Jubilee open-pit

The major portion of diamond output of the Aikhal MPD comes from open-pit, which has been operating since 1989. According to the JORC Code, the Jubilee pipe reserves are estimated at 70 million carats.

Diamond output in 2017 – 10.16 million carats.

Komsomolsky open-pit

The open-pit operates at the same-name pipe. Based on the JORC Code, the reserves are estimated at 1.5 million carats. Diamond content in the ore of the pipe is low (0.37 carats per ton), but the average weight of the diamonds produced is 1.5-2 times greater than the average weight of the diamonds extracted from the Jubilee and Aikhal pipes. The current production plan provides for mining the deposit up to 2020.

Diamond output in 2017 – 370.4 thousand carats.

Aikhal underground mine

The mine has been operating since 2005 at the site of the former Aikhal open pit, which was decommissioned in 1997. In 2012, the mine reached its design capacity of 500,000 tons of ore per year.

Diamond output in 2017 – 2.48 million carats.

Ore processing

The ore mined by the Aikhal MPD is processed at processing plants No. 8 and No. 14. The design capacity is 1.7 million tons of ore and 10 million tons of ore per year respectively.
