“The first stage of the rescue operation has been completed by now. According to the updated information, there were 151 miners in the Mir mine who were permitted to work underground. Nine of them were engaged in preparatory works before going down to the mine. So, when the accident happened there were 142 miners underground. 133 miners have been brought to the surface by now. They are safe and sound. Nine miners are still missing. The rescue operation continues.”
The Mir underground mine was flooded with water from the open-pit mine at 4.30 pm local time.
